One Dead Following Saturday Night Accident

Police said Kevin Bumbala died after he was thrown from his motorcycle at the intersection of South End Road and Mulberry Street.

Police are investigating a Saturday night motorcycle accident that left one resident dead and another in the hospital with injuries.

Kevin Bumbala, 171 Plum Orchard Road, was struck and thrown from his motorcycle while attempting to turn onto Mulberry Street from South End Road late Saturday evening. Bumbala, 36, was taken to Waterbury Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said in a press release.

Police said Bumbala had been traveling north along South End Road and turned left onto Mulberry Street when he was struck by a car driven by Edward Beach, of 3 Lynn Ave. in Plantsville.

Beach was also injured in the accident and taken by ambulance to the Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General, police said, but hospital staff was unable to provide an  updated condition for Beach Sunday evening. Police said he was expected to recover from injuries.

The accident forced police to close the road for several hours Saturday night and into Sunday morning as officers investigated.

Any witnesses to the accident are asked to contact the Southington Police Department at (860) 378-1600.
