Buy a Watch, Feed a Hungry Child

Chicago company launches campaign to change the world one watch at a time.

Hunger, AIDS, clean water, breast cancer and the environment.  These are all issues we should be concerned about.  And for the most part, we are.  It's just that the solutions seem so insurmountable that it's easy to throw our hands in the air and say, "I can't solve that problem! It's too big for me!"

But companies like Mirza Minds, a product design and brand development firm from Chicago are making it easier to help by providing wonderful opportunities for us to come together for the greater good.  MM has just launched a campaign called 1:Face to tackle the big issues with something as simple as a watch; a watch that has the power to quench thirst, feed a child, find a cure and so much more.

"The watch brand was originally the vision of Creative Director Fam Mirza. Having experienced both the hardships of the 3rd world and the comfort of the 1st, Fam desired to create something that could bridge that gap and ultimately make the world a better place," says their website.

"Change originates from within. That is why the face of the watch is designed as a mirror. When you check the time, you see your reflection looking back within you," says Mirza.

Each watch is a different color and every color represents an issue; white for hunger, yellow for water, pink for breast cancer, blue for the environment, red for AIDS and black for cancer.  So if you have an issue that's dear to your heart, you can purchase a watch in a specific color and the money goes to fund those causes!

The purchase of one watch costs $40 and gives you the power to change the world.  One white watch feeds 16 children through the organization One Days Wages.  One black watch provides support for 8 cancer patients through the American Cancer Society.  And by wearing your watch you not only look good but you spread awareness for those causes and inspire others to support their favorite causes as well.

Each watch has a tempored mirror face, polycarbonic sillicone band and alloy frame. It also comes with a one year warranty and watches are expected to be delivered by Nov. 15. The watches are not available at retail stores and won't be until the first quarter of 2013.

In their most recent campaign update, 1:Face reports that supporters have fed over 2,600 children in the horn of Africa, provided 17 charcoal-efficient stoves in Haiti, given 8 mammograms, provided support for 2600 cancer patients, AIDS treatments for 19 months and built 8% of a well in Rwanda.

The solution is simple.  Work together! No one person can tackle such huge social problems but together we can make a difference!  One Egyptian alone did not build the pyramids but together they accomplished one of the most fantastic feats in human history.

Sure, we don't have to build a pyramid but we do have to construct a lasting legacy of health, nutrition and safety for future generations.

Things indeed do change when we work together. You can help too!
