Bread for Life provides healthy summer snacks for children

Children in two Southington neighborhoods are receiving nutritional snacks each weekday thanks to a new program offered by Bread for Life. The distribution began on July 7 and will continue throughout the summer.

On Mondays through Fridays, volunteers deliver a snack bag packed with bottled water, fruit and packaged snacks to children in need. “Bread for Life wants to ensure that no one may go hungry, including our youngsters,” said Eldon Hafford, executive director.

During the school year, Bread for Life and the Southington Board of Education collaborate to ensure breakfast is available to students in all Southington public schools. Bread for Life officials said they wanted to continue that commitment to children who may not receive adequate nutrition during summer vacation.
