SOUTHINGTON, CT — At the grand opening of its newly constructed Southington branch, Liberty Bank announced that it had set aside a pool of $4.5 million to write fixed-rate mortgages at a one-half percent rate discount for Southington home buyers.

“Our business model is about building relationships, being a partner, and committing ourselves to doing what’s right for our customers, our employees, and our communities, over the long haul,” said Liberty Bank President and CEO Chandler J. Howard.

“We’re hoping to accomplish two great things with this offer,” said Mr. Howard, “stimulate the Southington real estate market, and help prospective home owners lower their monthly mortgage expense.” With this program on a fixed-rate mortgage, a borrower would save thousands of dollars in interest costs over the life of the loan.

At the event, the bank also presented a total of $5,000 in grants from the Liberty Bank Foundation to four Southington-area nonprofit agencies: Cyber Knights FIRST Robotics Team 195; Bread for Life; the Family Resource Center of Southington/Early Childhood Collaborative of Southington; and Southington Community Services.

There are several stipulations to qualify for a discounted mortgage. The purchase and sale agreement must be on a one-family owner-occupied dwelling in Southington, Conn. Individual loan amounts are capped at $417,000. The Bank will write approved mortgages until the pool of $4.5 million is exhausted.
