Southington Fire Dept. Annouces a New Fire Prevention Program

The Southington Fire Department is pleased to announce our community Risk Reduction Program. The program is a two pronged approach at preventing home fires; home safety visits and smoke alarm installation. This program is both free and voluntary where the on-duty crew will visit your home to deliver this presentation. This program is made possible from grants from Vision 20/20 Program, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters, and donations from the Southington Elks Lodge.

Every three hours, someone in the U.S. dies in a home fire. If a fire breaks out, you only have minutes to escape. Is your family prepared? The Southington Fire Department reminds you to install working smoke alarms on each floor, in hallways and inside bedrooms. The sooner you hear an alarm , the more time your family has to escape. Check alarms regularly, replace them if they are more than ten years old, and develop and practice an escape plan with your family.

For more safety information or to schedule an appointment for a home visit please contact Fire Inspector Robert Hunt at Fire Headquarters at (860) 621-3202 ext. 140
