Southington Man Quadruples Powerball Prize by Adding Power Play

Daniel McIntyre Wins $40,000 Powerball Prize for August 10 Drawing

Daniel McIntyre of Southington is a faithful, twice-a-week “Powerball” player, who always makes sure to add the “Power Play” feature to his ticket for an extra $1 and a chance to win a larger prize.

The winning Powerball numbers on August 10 were 4 – 12 – 14 – 37 – 58.  One of McIntyre’s “Quick Pick” tickets matched four of the five numbers drawn, plus the Powerball number, 13.  Because McIntyre Power Played his ticket, his $10,000 prize was automatically quadrupled for a hefty $40,000 win.

“I checked the website (ctlottery.org) Sunday night after dinner and saw that I matched the Powerball number,” McIntyre told lottery officials.  “I covered my eyes and looked at each number individually and saw that I had four numbers.  That’s when I started making phone calls to my closest friends and family!”

McIntyre arrived at CT Lottery headquarters Monday morning where Lottery officials presented him with a prize check for $27,321 (value after taxes).  “I was already thinking about getting a new car, but this will make buying it a lot easier.  Of course, I’ll also share some of the money with my kids and my grandkids,” McIntyre said.

McIntyre’s prize winning Powerball ticket was purchased at Dairy Farms, located at 68 Berlin Street in Southington.

In total, 8,431 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for August 10, with prizes ranging from $4 to $40,000.

Overall odds of winning a Powerball prize are 1 in 31.8.  The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot prize are 1 in 175,223,510.
