As Many As 1,500 Expected for Annual Apple Harvest Festival Road Race

The races, scheduled to take place at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 6, will provide opportunities for runners, joggers and walkers of all ages.

There are already more than 400 competitors signed up and ready to hit the road and by the time the gun sounds for the five mile and five kilometer road races this Sunday at the Apple Harvest Festival Road Race in downtown Southington, that number is expected to exceed 1,000.

The Apple Harvest Festival Road Races have grown into one of the more popular events of the two-weekend celebration and in it’s 13th year under the direction of the Southington YMCA, there are more events available than ever.

Here’s a little preview of the race to come, as presented by YMCA Executive Director John Myers:

Apple Harvest Festival Road Races
5 Mile Race – scenic course
5 K Race (3.1 miles)
2 Mile Walk along linear park – will finish on Town Green
Little Fritter Fun Runs –assortment of kids races around Southington Town Green

Pre-registration is available at the YMCA prior to Oct. 4. Mail or drop off to: 29 High Street, Southington, CT  06489. Costs are $20 for five-mile and 5K races, $10 for the two-mile walk and $10 for the Little Fritter Fun Run. Registration is also available for $5 more on race day between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m.
