Ceremony Honors Fallen Officer John Dolan

A bill by state legislators has honored Dolan, a Connecticut State Trooper who passed away in 2002 after a battle with cancer.

The following was submitted to Southington Patch.

A ceremony at American Legion Kiltonic Post #72 in Southington Friday unveiled a sign naming a bridge in honor of resident John Dolan.

The Route 10 bridge at Interstate 84 Eastbound in Southington has been renamed the "John A. Dolan Memorial Bridge" in his honor.

House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz, who represents Southington in the Connecticut General Assembly, explained that legislation (Public Act 13-277) was enacted earlier this year at the suggestion of John DeMello to honor his late friend John Dolan.

Dolan, a Southington resident, died at age 36 in 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of Operation Desert Storm and a commissioned Captain with the U.S. Army Reserve. He also served in the Connecticut State Police for 12 years and prior to that with the Meriden Police Department.
