Cut-a-Thon Helps Rebuilding Efforts For Local Church.

Couture Salon workers snipped all day Saturday to help fund the rebuilding of Calvary Life Church.

Every piece of hair cut during Couture Salon's Cut-A-Thon this weekend helped benefit a church in need a few miles down the road.

Last month the three-year old Calvary Life Church building in Cheshire was destroyed after a snow-imposed roof collapse. Everything was lost.

Since then the communities like Cheshire and Southington have come together raising funds for a new building while the church meets temporarily at other places.

Couture Salon owners Dean and Lisa Rodrigue's family attend Calvary and thought the day long snip fest would be a good way to contribute.

"We believe in giving back to the community, and the support has been awesome," Rodrigue said.

Rodrigue's sister, Brittany Everett, was one of those attending the cut-a-thon. A worship leader at Calvary Life, Everett said she's been touched by seeing the generosity and compassion, even from strangers since the collapse.

Not only has the church been able to use buildings like Cheshire High School for meetings, but a local Cheshire synagogue is allowing the church to hold youth meetings and other activities within its building. Other groups like Faith Living Church have collected offerings to help Calvary, and more than $3,500 has been raised in individual donations to the building fund through Facebook.

"People have been so generous, and it was really nice to have help come from other faiths and churches," Everett said.

Rodrigue said about 40 people stopped by for their $12 haircuts Saturday, generating nearly $500 to be allocated to the church funds.

" There were a lot of member's from Calvary, some from Faith Living and the support from our regular clients was great," Rodrigue said. "We enjoy doing this type of thing, and we are already planning our next event."

Everett said the church has already drafted blueprints for the new building set to resurrect on its property at 174 East Johnson Ave. The rubble has been cleared and construction should begin shortly.

"It's funny because there's really an excitement about it in our church, not a defeated feeling like you'd expect after something like that happening," Everett said. "We're just looking forward to rebuilding again."
