Flash Floods Possible As Heavy Rains Threaten Southington

A flash flood warning is in effect for the Southington area as heavy rains pass through nearby Cheshire.

A flash flood warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for Hartford and New Haven Counties through 4:15 p.m.

At 2:12 p.m., very heavy rain was reported from a line of thunderstorms extending from Cheshire to Durham moving southeast at 5 miles per hour, according to the NWS.

"VERY HEAVY RAIN ...WITH RAINFALL RATES OF UP TO TWO AND ONE HALF INCHES AN HOUR ...IS OCCURRING WITH THESE STORMS. THIS WILL CAUSE PONDING OF WATER ON ROADWAYS ...AND MINOR FLOODING OF POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. IN ADDITION ...FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING ...AND SMALL HAIL ARE EXPECTED WITH THESE STORMS."
