Residents took to the Southington Town Green on Thursday to celebrate flag day. We've started the photo gallery - add your pictures and video!

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson established Flag Day as a way of honoring "Old Glory" and and in 1949, June 14 was officially established for the celebration as part of an act by Congress.

Southington residents joined together Thursday at the to recognize the holiday, though not an official federal holiday, by waving their flags and shouting "U.S.A."

The holiday has a rich history in the United States and particularly the northeast, according to a cited article from Wikipedia:

One of the longest-running Flag Day parades is held annually in Quincy, Massachusetts, which began in 1952, celebrating its 59th year in 2010. The 59th Annual Appleton Wisconsin 2009 Flag Day Parade featured the U.S. Navy. The largest Flag Day parade is held annually in Troy, New York, which bases its parade on the Quincy parade and typically draws 50,000 spectators.

So how did you celebrate Flag Day? We've added a couple pictures and video clips above to get you started, now it's your turn to add your own photos and videos!
