Lake Compounce Opens for its 166th Season

New rides and activities paired with classic attractions kick off the season.

Lake Compounce has opened for its 166th season this spring, promising visitors more fun with a new ride, paint ball and more.

Brian Littigan, a 10-year-old area resident, said a brand new ride called Rev-o-lution, a giant platform seating 28 passengers which spins and glides on a five story-tall track.

"It's cool because you're standing up and you go backwards," Brian said. "I think my favorite ride I've been on besides the Boulder Dash roller coaster."

Aside from the new thrill ride, the park is also unveiling new features like a new sundae shop, online meal deals for dining spots at the park, and an unlimited parking pass for season pass holders.

"After the extremely snowy and cold winter we have had, the staff at Lake Compounce is ready to serve up Spring and Summer fun, and we know our newest ride is going to be well received," said General Manager Jerry Brick.

Brick also emphasized the importance of a slow-going, but continual improvement of Mt. Vernon road, necessary for the expansion of the water park. The project was approved but later removed from the state's bonding list because of budget shortfalls, forcing Lake Compounce to fund the project entirely.

“An expensive, but necessary step,” Brick said. “We are continuing to grow the park by working to shift Mount Vernon Road in preparation for the expansion of our water park, and we are really excited.”

The park's Antique Carousel also celebrates its 100th birthday this year, having been manufactured in 1898 and moved to Lake Compounce in 1911 from Savin Rock Amusement Park.

Although the carousel is a big hit with the younger crowd, 12 year-olds like Johnathan Florence and Jaime Christy said the best ride at the park is the Zoomerang, an upside down rollercoaster that reverses and goes backwards.

"It's the most fun," Jaime said. "We come here at least a couple times a year and that's always the best."

The park will continue their ‘Lake After Dark’ series, featuring local musicians on the Croc Pot deck Friday nights in July and August.
