Library Collecting Thanksgiving Food for Local Families

Give a neighbor in need something to be thankful for—donate to the library's food drive.

Wednesday, Oct. 24, is National Food Day. To mark the occasion, you may want to stop by the Southington Public Library and drop off a nonperishable Thanksgiving meal item. The library is collecting Thanksgiving food for local families in need. The food drive will continue into next month.

The food will be used by Southington Community Services to create Thanksgiving meal baskets for local families. Last year, the department filled more than 150 Thanksgiving baskets. This year they say the need is even greater.

Suggested Thanksgiving meal items for donation include:

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Stuffing
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Gravy
  • Canned vegetables
  • Pasta
  • Canned tomato sauce
  • Dessert mixes
  • Nuts

The library would like to remind patrons that this is not a Food for Fines event. It is a special collection to help Southington Community Services give a special day to those less fortunate.

The library is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and both Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more information, call the library at (860) 628-0947.
