National Day Of Prayer Coming To Southington Town Green

For over 20 years now, residents throughout Southington have come together to celebrate the National Day of Prayer and on May 2, local congregations will meet to celebrate the day once again.

Nearly 100 people are expected to join together at noon on Thursday at the Southington Town Green on Main Street for the annual celebration, said Kaye Davis, executive director for the United Way of Southington.

The celebration will be part of the 62nd annual National Day of Prayer, and Southington is one of thousands of communities nationwide who pause a moment to say a prayer for government leaders, police, fire, emergency medical personnel, military, churches, schools and families.

"We have been coming together to mark this day for over 20 years in Southington," said Rev. Victoria Triano, event organizer. "It is wonderful to see people from all walks of life coming together to remember our town and her people."

Triano said the event will last about 45 minutes and is open to the public. The ceremony will include nondenominational prayer with representatives from different religions throughout the community.

All area residents are invited to attend.

"This is a time of fellowship, song and prayer and we hope many of the town's residents will join us," she said.
