Southington Land Trust Picks Up 17 Acres, Rare Kettle Bog

The Southington Land Conservation Trust has taken another 17 acres  under its wing, as well as a rare kettle bog, after receiving a generous land donation from the Tomasso family, the Hartford Courant reports.

The parcel, located off of Mount Vernon Road, may contain uncommon plants due to the presence of the kettle bog, which was created by a melting glacier millennia ago, the Courant explained.

"This land is something special" and "a beautiful showcase property," land trust donation and acqusitions director Bonnie Sica said in the Courant article. "Michael and Angelo Tomasso could not have been more gracious and welcoming. The Tomasso family truly cares about the future preservation of this land, and we are humbled that they have entrusted such a treasure to the land trust."
