(Updated: 11:53 a.m.) After School Activities, Meetings Cancelled as Southington Braces for Storm

A winter storm is headed to Southington and the town is taking caution to make sure students and residents arrive home safe beforehand.

Update: 11:53 a.m.
Due to Southington Public School early dismissals, the Parks & Recreation Dept.'s Adult Yoga Classes, Men's Over/Under 35 Basketball League and all Southington Youth Basketball and Youth Wrestling activities scheduled for today have been CANCELLED for Tuesday.

Late evening meetings including the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting have also been cancelled. Southington Public Library has not announced any cancellations or early closure times as of 11:45 a.m.

Original Story
Southington schools will dismiss early in preparation for a winter storm that could bring upwards of near a foot of snow, and with the timing of the storm, more delays or cancellations could be on their way over the next 24 hours.

The National Weather Service says a winter storm watch is in effect from Tuesday afternoon until late Tuesday night.

Snow accumulations of four to eight inches, and the chance of some locally higher accumulations, are possible across Connecticut. North winds could be 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph.
