Southington ShopRite Sells $2M Winning Lotto Ticket

It's the second time this year that the store has sold a million dollar winner. And this time a Southington resident is the lucky person.

A press release from CT Lottery:

Just over three months ago, ShopRite of Southington sold a “$1,000,000 Silver & Gold” instant ticket to Angelo Colella of Plainville. Colella entered his non-winning ticket into the game’s final 2nd Chance drawing and it was randomly selected as the $1,000,000 top prize winner.

On Monday, lady luck arrived yet again at ShopRite of Southington when another customer, Lawrence Hall of Southington, purchased a $2,000,000 top prize winning "Big Money" instant ticket.

“We were thrilled in December when we learned that one of our customers purchased a $1,000,000 prize winning ticket,” said Don Drust Sr., one of the ShopRite of Southington’s principal owners. “The news of 2,000,000 win is even more exciting. We’re very happy for Mr. Hall, and wish him the best of luck.”

The Big Money instant game gives top prize winners the choice between a 20-year annuity prize worth $2,000,000, or a cash lump sum value of $1,156,800.  Opting for the cash lump sum, Hall accepted a prize check from lottery officials for $790,094 after taxes.

Of the 10 top prizes in the $20 instant game Big Money, only one $2,000,000 top prize remains to be claimed. The odds of winning a prize are 1 in 3.51. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 504,000.

For selling the $2,000,000 top prize winning ticket, ShopRite of Southington, located at 750 Queen St., will receive a $20,000 bonus from the CT Lottery.
