Symposium on Aging To Address Community Readiness and Needs

The Tuesday symposium will help provide insight as Southington prepares to be an "aging-ready community.

The following was submitted by Julie Norko, Central Connecticut Senior Health Services director of development and philanthropy.

An exploration of the community’s readiness to meet the needs of the older population will be presented at the Symposium on Aging on Tuesday, June 4. The program will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Orchards at Southington, 56 Hobart St.

Topics include: What are the issues? What is Southington’s “Livability Index?” What are the current resources? What next steps will best position Southington as an “aging-ready” community?

Providing insights and facilitating discussion will be senior care and home- and community-based providers, clergy, foundations and others who seek to provide the best possible solutions for the community.

Among those participating will be several of the authors and the men and women they interviewed for the book,  “From i-Grandma to Medicare: Essays on Aging by CCSU [Central Connecticut State University] Students and Seniors of Southington.” The publication will be available at the event.

Symposium on Aging is being offered to home- and community-based providers, clergy, foundations and media only. Refreshments and lunch will be served. For more information, call Julie Norko, (203) 394-8248.

This event is sponsored by Central Connecticut Senior Health Services, United Way of Southington, and The Orchards at Southington, all not-for-profits.
