What's Open, What's Closed on Thanksgiving/Black Friday

Thursday is a federal and state holiday as Southington residents celebrate Thanksgiving and Friday has some odd closures as well, though stores will be jam packed. Take a look at what's open and closed on Nov. 28 - 29.

Turkey and football are likely to take center stage Thursday and shopping will be on people's minds on Friday as the community celebrates Thanksgiving and the start of the holiday season.

With both days, there will be some closures and delays due to the holiday weekend so take a look at what's open and closed this year.

Thanksgiving
Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013

  • Southington Town Hall: Closed
  • Southington Public Library: Closed
  • Southington schools: Closed
  • Banks and U.S. Financial Market: Closed
  • U.S. Post Offices: Closed
  • State Government Offices: Closed
  • State Courts: Closed
  • Liquor Stores: Closed as one of a select couple holidays under state law. 
  • Supermarkets: Some open special hours, call ahead.
  • Retail stores: Most closed daytime, though many may open at 6 p.m. 24-hour gas stations will remain open.
  • Southington Parks: Open under normal hours.

The Connecticut Department of Labor TeleBenefits Call Centers will also be closed for initial claims. Automated telephone and Internet system for filing unemployment insurance continued claims will be available.

Black Friday
Friday, Nov. 29, 2013

  • Southington Town Hall: Closed
  • Southington Public Library: Closed
  • Southington schools: Closed
  • Banks and U.S. Financial Market: Most will be open normal hours.
  • U.S. Post Offices: Open regular hours.
  • State Government Offices: Closed
  • State Courts: Closed
  • Liquor Stores: Open regular hours.
  • Supermarkets: Open
  • Retail stores: Open, many through the night starting Thursday in preparation for the busiest shopping day of the year.
  • Southington Parks: Open under normal hours.

The Connecticut Department of Labor TeleBenefits Call Centers will also be closed for initial claims. Automated telephone and Internet system for filing unemployment insurance continued claims will be available.
