Black Stone Monument Mystery Continues

Caught between a rock and a hard place?

Who approved the installation of a black stone monument along the linera trail? The mystery continues.

One would have thought that with all the knowledgeable people present at Monday's Town Council meeting, we could have finally found out after nine days of asking exactly who approved the four-foot high black stone marker from Edward Jones Financial.

Does it have a nice "You are here" map that some of us have said for months we need? Yes. Did they donate $25,000 to help with Phase II cost? Yes. But...did this really cost $4,000 to make and $1,000 to deliver to the West Main Street location?

Monday night's Town Council meeting had all nine town councilors present as well as Town Manager Garry brumback, Town Attorney Mark Sciota, Town Clerk Leslie Cotton and Town Engineer Anthony Tranquillo.

Tranquillo is also the Director of Public Works, overseeing the Highway Department, the Parks Department and the Sewer Departments. It seemed that nobody was willing to admit they approved this after all these months of Council and committee discussions.

I attended EVERY committee meeting and every Council meeting for the past two years. I also attended several Park Board meetings and many Chamber of Commerce committee meetings regarding Phase II of Rails to Trails and advertising, directories, kiosks, etc. This "marker" was never mentioned.

What we have here is a failure to communicate. Why?
