CL&P President to Speak Before Business Owners at Chamber Breakfast

It's been nearly 16 months since the utility giant began implementing major changes following an October snowstorm that left Southington in the dark and local businesses will get the chance to see what's been done to prevent future blackouts.

When Southington was left in the dark for nearly a week following a freak October snowstorm in 2011, local business owners expressed frustration and outrage at the losses they accrued in not being able to open their stores or operate their machinery at full capacity.

Now those same business owners will get a chance to put new Connecticut Light & Power President William Herdergen III on the spot as he comes before members of the Southington Chamber of Commerce during their celebrity breakfast on Feb. 26.

“In the past, we had (Jeffrey Butler) come before the chamber to discuss how the company is working to help make businesses more efficient in the state. After the recent snowstorm and changes following the (October 2011) stuff, we figured it would be a great time for CL&P to come forward and let business owners know what’s been done and what they can expect in terms of rates and other things down the road,” said Chamber of Commerce President Art Secondo.

Secondo said the program does not set a topic, but rather allows celebrity speakers to determine their own subjects to discuss before opening up the conversation to a question and answer session.

Registration begins at 8 a.m and there is an admission to attend. Contact the Southington Chamber of Commerce to reserve a seat at (860) 628-8036. The event is sponsored by Randy’s Wooster Street Pizza and Hawk’s Landing Country Club.

The celebrity breakfast is one of two events the chamber will host next week.

On Wednesday, Feb. 27, the chamber will host a grand opening for King 33, a new facility on Aircraft Road that trains personnel and professional clients on self-defense and all types of security needs. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and will include brief demonstrations. Owner Chris Fields, a local resident, is a former military specialist. Call the chamber to register.
