Community Center? Mini Golf? Help Fill the West Street Vacancy

There's an opening at the end of West Street in Plantsville and a lot of opportunity. Get your thinking caps on people, it's time to look beyond the typical commercial realm as we explore opportunities for a vacant building this week.

Last week we asked you to consider filling the space at ShopRite Plaza and you responded - the top pick after suggestions were in came out to be a Christmas Tree Shop.

Today, we have something different for you as we look to fill something a little less commercial. Have some fun with it, will you?

Let's call this a modern spin on community planning - Patch's version of a charette, a digital drawing board where all ideas are on the table.

Each week we'll present a new vacant building and ask you to tell us what you think would be the best use. Forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump lot coverage rules and all the other zoning jargon that puts people most to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?

This week, we venture into Plantsville and to the busy intersection where West Street, West Main Street and Marion Avenue where there is a vacant space available with lots of potential.

The 15,000 available square feet can be used in several ways, from light industrial to heavy commercial. It can be subdivided to make for multiple businesses or used as a larger space for one single company. The possibilities are endless.

Standing just a short walk from downtown Plantsville and restaurants like Zingarella Pizzeria and the Hearthstone Pub, there is reason for hope.

It's time to put your thinking caps on, people! There are few spaces in town with as many options available, so tell us your thoughts on the best way for a business owner - or owners - to fill the space.

We want to know the best way to make that business thrive again. How would you propose to fill the vacant spot? Your thoughts could make a difference, so share your input now!

@WTF, better yet, a strip club/sports bar. In this town, it would do a landslide business and a great location for the Waterbury & Wolcott crowd.
