Panera Bread Set to Open in Southington in February

The popular bakery and restaurant chain will soon join other businesses along Queen Street in Southington.

Panera Bread, the popular bakery and restaurant chain, is coming to Southington – and sooner than you might think.

The company has announced that it will open it’s doors at a new location on Queen Street in mid-February, offering a full menu of handmade sandwiches, soups, bakery products and more.

The company, owned by Howley Bread Group, file their application last week with the Southington Chamber of Commerce. The store will officially open on Feb. 17 with a grand opening later this month.

Panera representatives could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

“The Southington (Connecticut) Chamber of Commerce welcomes its latest application for membership – Panera Bread-Howley Bread Group –coming to Queen St. in town opening Feb. 17 located in the new plaza across from Friendly's, corner of Loper Street,” Chamber of Commerce President Art Secondo wrote on his Facebook page. “Welcome and thank you!”

The store will move to the location at the corner of Loper Street, across from the Friendly’s Restaurant. The announcement also answers questions left to residents when developers with Galaxy Development filed for a 7,500 square foot building on the property in 2012.

The application was eventually approved with promises that the business would be a good neighbor and would not be operating or creating excess lighting in the overnight hours.

The company is expected to begin hiring soon.
