Printing a Model for Marketing Success

Southington's JC Marketing Communications brings a 360-degree approach to the industry and their latest body of work has led to recognition in two categories of the New England Regional Awards of Excellence Competition.

Sitting in the back of a Wolcott High School classroom in the 1970s, Joseph Cekauskas found himself drawing musicians when a crowd of classmates gathered around him. His teacher came to see what was going on and was impressed with what the teenager was accomplishing.

Two weeks later the teacher approached his parents, turning to them and saying “you know your son can draw, right?” His parents and teachers worked him into the schools art program and Cekauskas never looked back.

Cekauskas, a Southington resident and owner of JC Marketing Communications, has helped build a business that has taken the marketing world by storm, providing everything from multimedia packages and Internet videos to state-of-the-art and one of a kind print materials for businesses throughout the northeast.

“We specialize in 360 degree marketing. For us, everything is done in house and Felix (Mimo), Mike (Giannaccio) and I have been working together for 25 years. It allows us to provide a service that can really make other businesses stand out,” Cekauskas said.

JC Marketing and Communications was recently named winner of two separate awards from the Printing Industry of New England for their work with Tomz Corp., a job that led to the creation of a one-of-a-kind brochure and helped bring more attention to an already dedicated marketing company.

The company, along with associates at Prospect Printing, was named Pinnacle Marketing/Promotional award winner for cross media promotion, as well as being named the Pinnacle winner for finishing techniques.

“Our judges have a total of 90 years of print production experience and are invited across the country to other PIA associations to judge so they have seen all levels of print,” said Christine Hagopian, PINE’s Director of Programs. “Even though the number of entries was not as large as some of the other associations they felt the quality of PINE members' entries took a back seat to no one. Our members should be very proud of that.”

For JC Marketing and Communications, success is dedication to fast, quality service and unique ideas that other companies can’t offer.

Founded in 1999, Cekauskas founded the company after nearly three decades in the industry. He is a graduate of the University of Hartford and considers himself an over-achiever and perfectionist. Cekauskas is joined by Mimo, Giannaccio and his wife, Heather Hudson, in running a company that represents organizations across the northeast.

“What truly makes us successful is (Cekauskas) background in fine arts,” Hudson said. “He has been working in the industry since before it began to translate into the digital age and he knows what it takes to succeed.”

Spending time after his days at the University of Hartford working in an advertising agency, Cekauskas still remembers the long days and even longer nights of hard work it took to make things happen. He said the key is dedication, a quality he showed his bosses in staying late to create his own brochures.

And it was the unique brochure that led to the company being recognized in 2013. After winning a bid to serve as the marketing agency for Tomz Corp., he said he sat down and tried to create a new design that no one had come out with before.

After working tirelessly, Cekauskas was able to put together a package that included multimedia space, specially designed round pages and a layered pamphlet section that allows Tomz Corp. to change their brochure with each and every new customer.

“Print is very much alive. It’s what these companies are looking for,” he said. “You can find anyone on the Internet, but when looking to attract new customers, you want to be able to hand them materials that will make them turn and say, ‘this is what we have been looking for’.”

“It’s this mentality that sets us apart,” he said.
