Rave Southington Theatre Is Sold

The 12-screen multiplex has been sold to a Dallas-based theater chain.


The Rave Southington movie multiplex has been sold to Starplex Cinemas, according to reports.

The Dallas-based Starplex Cinemas made the announcement that it acquired the 12-screen theater complex at 1821 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike on Wednesday, according to digitaljournal.com.

Starplex Cinemas is said to be converting the theater to 100 percent digital projection by the weekend. 

According to myrecordjournal.com which quoted a Southington town official, the new owners of the 16.4-acre parcel are expected to subdivide the property into three parcels to allow for a restaurant or other development in the grassy area in front of the theater. 

The theater's popular low ticket prices will remain at $5 for all shows before 6 p.m., and $7 after 6 p.m. with a $2.50 upcharge for 3D films. Tickets for children and seniors are $5 all day. Starplex also plans a Bargain Tuesday with $5 shows all day and the standard $2.50 upcharge for 3D films.
