Readers' Choice: Nominate Your Favorite Preschool

Tell us about the best options for the little ones in Southington.

This week's Readers' Choice contest moves to a category with blocks, finger paints, swings and sandboxes: Best Preschools.

This can be an emotional category because most of us love the schools we choose for our children, but many parents are still in that "looking" stage, and your comments may help them narrow down their choices.

Tell us about why you chose your preschool and what makes it special in the comments below. The nominations will close on Thursday at 5 p.m., and we'll announce the winner based on comments and Patch Places reviews by Saturday morning.

Village Green Nursery School is the best! We have been so happy with our daughter's experience there. She is finishing up her second year and moving on to Kindergarten; we feel confident she will do well due to her time at VGNS. They provide a wonderful, nurturing environment, while balancing education with play. I always felt my child was in great hands with the staff there too!

I think all the preschool programs in town have a lot to be proud of. We offer a valuable service to the families of Southington. All of the programs, though varied in their approach to preschool, prepare children for the future. I would like to thank the families of Village Green Nursery School for your votes and wonderful comments. With all the wonderful programs available, choosing a preschool is not an easy task. We truly appreciate you choosing Village Green and entrusting us with your child's first school experience. THANK YOU! Nan Sheridan, Director, VGNS

I YMCA Learning Center is the most amazing place! My 3 year old started in January after being in another center and in the first few weeks he was reciting the alphabet and finding letters around our house. It is wonderful how fast he made friends. He has already been invited to 2 playdates! At his old center I had to bribe him daily to go to school and there has not been one day since starting the YMCA that he hasn't been excited to go. I highly recommend any parent looking for quality care to bring your child to the YMCA Learning Center. It is not just a preschool but an actual LEARNING center. I know my son will be ready for kindergarten after attending the Y.

Village Green Nursery School-all the staff are extremely dedicated and compassionate about their roles as the first experience a child will have in the education system. The teachers have all been there for years with little turnover. The staff and Director frequently attend curriculum meetings and classes and stay up to date on the best teaching methods. The classroom is fun, colorful, chock full of manipulative learning toys, books, music, etc. I love the open door policy and the ability to volunteer whenever I can. All 3 of my children have attended and I couldn't be happier with their transition into kindergarten!
