Readers' Choice Winner: Best Staycation Destination

There were three local nominations this week, but what started as a a tight race eventually led to a distinctive victory for the Mountain Grove Swim Club.

It started as a tight vote between the Lake Compounce at the Bristol town line and Mountain Grove Swim Club on Savage Street, but a strong finish in the polling helped define a clear winner this week.

Residents were less than quick to jump in and nominate their favorite staycation destinations this week, with just three local nominations made among only two comments over the first couple days.

In the end it was Lake Compounce, the and that went head to head for the title, but Mountain Grove was just too strong to allow anyone else to make a comeback.

Out of 40 votes this week, Mountain Grove captured 29 of them. Lake Compounce came in second with 10 votes and YMCA Camp Sloper received just one vote by the time the poll closed. Camp Sloper did receive three comments, however.

"For anyone who is new to town or has never heard of Mountain Grove--it is a pool and tennis club. It is a wonderful place to enjoy the summer, make new friends, barbecue, and ensure that your kids have great memories," said Maria Proffitt.

"Members at Mountain Grove become like a family - it is a hidden jewel in Southington - having been members for 18 yrs. I can attest to the fact that my husband, kids and myself have made lifelong friends and countless happy memories - we now look forward to providing those memories for future grandchildren! Join Mt. Grove - it's cheaper and less stressful than having a pool in your backyard!"
