RECALL: Stop & Shop Pulls Mini Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers

The grocery chain is removing the "Late July Organic Snacks" crackers from the shelves because of possible salmonella contamination in the peanut butter used in its manufacture.

Stop & Shop has pulled its Late July Organic Snacks mini peanut butter sandwich crackers after the company recalled the product due to possible salmonella contamination in the peanut butter.

The affected products have sell-by dates of May 19, 2013, through July 11, 2013, and are as follows:      

  • Late July Organic Snacks Mini Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers, UPC 89044400070, 5 oz.
  • Late July Organic Snacks Mini Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers, UPC 89044400071, 1.125 oz.
  • Late July Organic Snacks Mini Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers, UPC 89044400072, 9 oz.

Customers who have bought the product should throw away any unused portions and bring their receipt to the nearest Stop & Shop for a full refund. No illnesses have been reported.

Eating food with salmonella contamination can cause salmonellosis, a common food-borne illness that causes diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within 72 hours, and salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially for those with weak immune systems such as infants, the elderly, people with infected with the HIV virus and those undergoing chemotherapy.
