Tell Us About Your Favorite Wine

For those last-minute holiday purchases, what's the best bottle for the price?

It's the fallback gift for a host or hostess, and it's the easiest present to pick up when you don't know what else to get. But do you walk into the wine store blind and grab the first bottle that fits your price point, or do you really want to know what you're giving?

Are screw-off caps really okay now, or is it gauche to give a bottle without a proper cork? Are there certain labels to avoid because they give away how little you know about wine? What's best to have on hand for guests over the holidays?

If you're one of those people who can tell a blueberry note from a blackberry note, please share your knowledge with us. What are the best buys on wine, and where do you buy your vino?

Bubbles. I love sparkling wine any time of year, and my go-to has been Mumm Napa Brut Rose.

Bogle Phantom. It is a red blend usually priced about $20 and is excellent.

Relax Riesling from the Mosel region of Germany. It's a great wine that I bought once as a joke for a friend who needed to, you guessed it, relax. Turns out that it actually tastes great. It's about $10-$15 a bottle.

Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva is my favorite wine. It's a really nice red from Tuscany. My second favorite would be Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio.
