Board of Finance to Hold Public Hearing $11 million Road Repair Bond Proposal

Town Board of Finance holding public hearing on Tuesday June 26 at 5;45 pm at Police Department Training Room at Lazy Lane in Southington regarding prospective $11 million bond referendum.

It is of great importance to the future of the residents, commercial enterprises and the Town of Southington itself that the citizens of our town become well-informed regarding  potential bonding of eleven million dollars to restore and rebuild the Town's 200-mile public road network.

Not only is the size of such a financial commitment important but as citizens our input and understanding of this project is vital. We can afford to ignore the opportunity to listen, ask questions, learn and speak now on a matter of such great consequence.

This issue is also far too important to allow partisan politics to inluence the outcome.

The plan to be heard by the Board of Finance and the public at 5:45 pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2012 includes extending the life of Southington’s public roads, including: $500,000 per year for routine and preventative restoration, and $4,500,000 per year for structural improvements that will delay the significantly higher cost of base rehabilitation.

The magnitude of this program is not one that can wisely be treated with apathy.  The costs, the structure of the financing, what the project will do for the town as well as avoiding the consequences of delay in addressing these issues is critical to the future vitality of our town.r
