March 19th: National Kick Butts Day What Southington Kids Are Doing

Today, Wednesday, March 19, 2014 is National Kick Butts Day, 

Here's what's going on at DePaolo Middle School, according to Trisha Kenefick, Peer Advocates Advisor, in behalf of the schools. Peer Advocates will be out there Wednesday putting up cups on the fences with a Kick Butts Day message. They will be out there for one hour from 2:45 to 3:45 pm. 
National Kick Butts Day is one of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against Big Tobacco. More than 1,000 events are expected in schools in communities across the United States and beyond.

  • Raise awareness of the problem of tobacco use in their state or community;

  • Encourage youth to reject the tobacco industry's deceptive marketing and stay tobacco-free; and

  • Urge elected officials to take action to protect kids from tobacco.

  • Kick Butts Day is organized by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and sponsored by the United Health Foundation. The first Kick Butts Day was held in 1996.
