The story...

It’s the season of Lent, a very special time of year for Christians of faith to draw spiritually closer to God and their faith as they open their minds and hearts to a renewal of the teachings of Jesus Christ in daily life. What is the Christian faith all about?  What does it mean to the faithful in the 21st century?

One of the most recognized and widely known references to the teachings of Christ in the Bible is the Sermon on the Mount: Matthew 5-7.  Now, bringing the good news to Southington on Monday, March 17 and again on Tuesday March 18 are the Partners in Faith of St. Dominic Church, in two live performances only of a dramatic production of The Sermon on the Mount, enacted by film and TV star, Frank Runyeon, whose tours, dramas and comedies are enjoyed in 40 states each year, in more than 2,000 Catholic and Protestant Churches throughout the country.

Runyeon’s vibrantly moving dramas are acclaimed nationally by critics, scholars and pastors of every denomination in America, according to RuneyonProductions.com. In Runyeon’s moving interpretation of the story of the Sermon on the Mount the lines heard bring new meaning to the Lord’s Prayer, the Beatitudes, the Golden Rule and much more that relating to our lives today in the 21st century.  You will meet the livestock merchant, the silk trader, the Deacon who just can’t stop talking, the seamstress who spends all her money on her clothes and other interesting people. As the actor moves around the church retelling the sermon, there is a surprising humor accompanying the powerful drama. In the end, there is a pervading sense that the sermon is about ourselves, that we too must decide, as the crowd did on the mountainside  2000 years ago, what they will do now… what this timeless message means in our lives today.
