Baseball Semi-Finals, North Center School Closing and Helping Troops

A look at five things worth knowing about today in Southington.

1. Temperatures Begin to Soar –


After a warm day of sunshine Monday, the National Weather Service is calling for temperatures to climb a little further today and could possibly hit 90. The sun will continue to shine as summer weather appears to be headed our way.

Those temperatures are expected to climb even further on Wednesday and Thursday, leading to a hot end of the week.

2. Southington Blue Knights Baseball –

The Blue Knights baseball team will look to continue their winning ways tonight as they take on the New Britain Golden Hurricanes in the semi-final match-up of this years CIAC tournament.

The #7 Blue Knights have managed to stay alive with impressive tight-game victories including a 4-2 win in their quarterfinals match-up against Pomperaug High School on Saturday. Tonight’s game will take place at 7 p.m. at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury.

3. Borghesi Scheduled to Close on North Center School Next Week –

After several delays in the process, Borghesi Building and Engineering of Torrington is expected to close with the town on the North Center School property Monday. The closing will take place on June 13 and School Superintendent Joseph V. Erardi Jr. said they would immediately begin work on the property as the town looks to move in as early as November.

4. Shot-Put Champion –

Southington shot-putter Cherraine Davis, a junior, took home championship gold in girls’ state track and field Monday afternoon.

Davis, who transferred to Southington from the Miss Porter’s School following her sophomore year, won the meet with a heave of 40-10, a personal best. Davis moves on to the New England Open in Vermont this Saturday.

5. Story of the Day: Students Honored for  –

Southington students have gone above and beyond, raising $1,500 to help purchase laptops and cameras to help troops overseas.
