So here’s the scoop for today, March 22, 2011.

Friendship Club –

Are you seeking to meet new friends, try new things and simply enjoy life? Well give the “Friendship Club” a try.

The club will meet today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mulberry Gardens, 58 Mulberry St. in Plantsville. Members can enjoy transportation, activities, meals and more. For more information, contact Marie Terzak at (860) 276-1020 for more information.

Board of Education –

Board members face a tough decision tonight when they are expected to vote on an anticipated school population for the middle school feasibility project. Projections have been below actual school populations at both the DePaolo and Kennedy middle schools, but if the board builds a school too large, it could cost them in state reimbursement funds.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Kennedy Middle School on South Main Street in Plantsville and is open to the public.

Finance Board To Decide Budget Recommendation for Board of Ed –

With a tough budget year and an already slim 1.95 percent increase request by the Board of Education for the 2011-12 fiscal year, the Board of Finance will be responsible for making a recommendation to the council regarding the Board of Education’s budget.

A decision is expected tonight at the finance workshop, which is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Finance Department at Town Hall, 75 Main St.

Komisarjevsky Trial Coverage –

In case you missed it, we are committed at Patch to providing continuing coverage of the trial of Joshua Komisarjevsky, who is facing the death penalty for his involvement in a deadly 2007 Cheshire home invasion that claimed the lives of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her two daughters, Hayley and Michaela Petit.

A motion was denied Wednesday that would have allowed Komisarjevsky to plead guilty in exchange for life in prison. Read and follow any updates in our column “”
