Cinco de Mayo and What You Need to Know About Blogging

There’s a lot going on around town and on our website today, so let’s take a moment to review Five Things you need to know about today, May 5, in Southington.

Cinco de Mayo –

May 5 is here again, a Mexican civic holiday that commemorating the Mexico’s military victory over the French on May 5, 1862. But for many in the area, it’s a holiday better known for drinking and celebration with friends and family.

If you are seeking a true Mexican experience today, try your luck at El Sombrero, 151 Queen St. in Southington. The restaurant/bar will hold specials all day long to celebrate the holiday.

Join in for a Day of Prayer –


The nation is coming together today, putting denominations aside to celebrate “National Day of Prayer.”

Southington’s Annual National Day of Prayer will take place at noon today on the Southington Town Green across from Town Hall, 75 Main St.

All are invited to join in this town-wide time of prayer and music with clergy and worshippers of all faiths. Members of the clergy of our community are encouraged to be present and pray for Southington, the nation and the needs of the people.

“The Sound of Music” –

The Steeple Players of First Congregational Church, 37 Main St., will present their performance of “The Sound of Music” tonight and throughout the weekend. The classic play is open to the public.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors and can be purchased in advance by calling the church office at (860) 628-6958 or stopping by the church. The show will begin at 7 p.m. each day through Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
