Concert on the Green Postponed Amidst Tornado Warning

Concert rescheduled for Thursday evening due to severe weather warnings for Hartford County this evening.

A tornado warning remains in effect for much of the state through this evening and although weather is sunny now, Southington will play it safe and postpone tonight's Music on the Green series as well.

Parks staff said the program will held tomorrow, Thursday, June 2, instead to make sure attendees remain safe.

Thursday's concert will begin at 7 p.m. and is open to the public free of charge. The feature artist will be the Larry Ayce Band.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for much of Connecticut, including Hartford County. The watch includes an advisory that a tornado might occur, given high temperatures and approaching cold front in the forecast.

A tornado watch issued for much of Connecticut, including Hartford County, has been upgraded to a warning after a tornado was spotted in Westfield, Mass. and again heading for Springfield around 4:30 p.m.

The tornado warning from the National Weather Service lasts until 5:15 p.m. A watch continues through 8 p.m.

The combination of high temperatures and an approaching cold front in the forecast threaten to cause severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening that could produce strong winds, lightning and hail, according to the weather service.

The warning urges people to take shelter inside in a reinforced building, or in a ditch as a last resort.

"Heavy rainfall may obscure this tornado. Take cover now! If you wait to see or hear it coming, it may be too late," it says.
