Greenway Commons Groundbreaking, Council Decisions and Parents-4-A-Change

1. The World is Still Here –


Temperatures will warm up and could reach 81 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, but sunshine will not come with it. Showers and thunderstorms are possible around noontime with a 40 percent chance of precipitation and the rest of the day is expected to remain cloudy.

2. Meridian Development to Break Ground on Ideal Forging Project –

After years of planning and remediation, Meridian Development will kick-off the Greenway Commons project Tuesday with a special ceremony at Ideal Forging.

The ceremony, slated to begin at 12:30 p.m., will commemorate the 130 years of history the site has given to the town of Southington. Be sure to check in for updates and further coverage on Southington Patch.

3. Council Give Go Ahead on Police Department Repair Projects –


The Southington Town Council approved a motion Monday awarding a bid for replacement of the underground storage tank at the Southington Police Department to Environmental Tank Tech of Durham. The bid was awarded in the amount of $30,720, but not until Councilor Anthony D’Angelo expressed concerns about the leak in an 8-year-old building.

Council members also approved a motion allowing Town manager Garry Brumback to select and award a bid to the lowest bidder for repairs of the department’s computer room cooling system.

4. Parents-4-A-Change To Host Monthly Meeting Tonight –

The drug abuse awareness group Parents-4-A-Change will host their monthly meeting tonight with guest speaker Diana Clark, an expert on addictive disorders.

The meeting will be held in the Derynoski School cafeteria beginning at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

5. Story of the Day: Council Democrats Push for Bathroom Repairs –

As the bathrooms continue to deteriorate at Memorial Park, Democrats are continuing their push to find an immediate solution. The discussions turned political Monday evening, but Republicans remain focused on developing a long-term plan for the parks system and addressing the most pressing needs first.
