Health District Approved, Perfect Timing and Stonegate Sump Pumps

There’s a lot happening in town. Keep up to speed with what’s what in Southington in today’s Five Things.

Regional Health Department A Reality –

It’s official. The town will now be part of a joint health district with Plainville that will enhance services and reduce costs to taxpayer.

The Plainville Town Council Monday night approved a motion for an ordinance forming the health district just one week after Southington council members approved a similar motion. Southington stands to save over $100,000 per year, thanks to added support from the state according to Southington Health Director Charles Motes.

Water Main Cleaning Has Begun –

The Southington Water Department has officially started a water main cleaning in parts of the town that will continue over the course of the next week.

The cleaning is designed to flush pipes and conduct routine maintenance, but certain areas of town may see some slight delays as the process continues. For a complete list of streets affected click here.

Perfect Timing Makes for Save in Ideal Forging Fire –

Training took on a new meaning for Southington firefighters Tuesday as their trip to a training session was cut short when they passed by an active fire at the Ideal Forging site along Center Street.

Story of the Day: Sump Pumps Not The Issue Along Stonegate Road –

There are many factors which could be contributing to a sewer problem that has left residents frustrated and pushed sewage into homes since 2007, but sump pumps are not a primary cause for concern.

Staff with CDM of Wethersfield said Tuesday evening that sump pumps are having “only a minimal effect at most” in the area after finding just 11 pumps that could potentially be connected to the sewer system in a study that included evaluation of 154 homes.
