Hernandez Resigns as Football Coach, Budget to be Set Tonight

SHS Football Coach Resigns –

Dennis Hernandez has resigned as football coach at Southington High School after just one season as head coach, the high school’s Athletic Department announced late Tuesday afternoon.

Hernandez had served during the 2010 season and led the Blue Knights to an 8-2 record. He will be taking the Quarterback Coach position at Brown University.

Board of Finance To Set Budget –


After making some final adjustments to the proposed 2011-12 budget Tuesday evening which included a reduction of $80,000 to the Board of Education’s operating budget, the Board of Finance is expected to set a recommendation to forward to the Southington Town Council tonight.

The latest cuts were part of an effort to reduce the mill rate further and included a $20,000 reduction in rent relating to the move to North Center School, as well as a $60,000 reduction relating to new staffing said board member John Moise.

Tonight’s meeting will be held at Town Hall, beginning at 7 p.m., and is open to the public.
