High Octane Kids, Blood Screenings and Thiery's Departure

So here’s the scoop for today, March 3, 2011.

High Octane Kids –


Does your child have a seemingly have a never-ending abundance of energy? A workshop at the Thalberg School this evening looks at causes, prevention, and intervention with energetic kids. Avoiding labels like hyper and difficult helps to start this session on a positive note. Strategies that help the child, family, and child care providers are discussed.

Parents and childcare providers are invited to attend and childcare is available for free. The program will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and costs just $5.

Free Blood Pressure Screening –

Are you worried about your blood pressure? Has it been a while and you can’t afford it? The Visiting Nurses Association will host a blood pressure screening tomorrow which is available to all town residents as part of initiative to improve health in the community.

The screening will be held at 80 Meriden Ave. from 3 to 4 p.m. and is open to the public. Screenings are free of charge and done on a first come, first serve basis.

Board of Water Commissioners Meeting –


The Board of Water Commissioners will hold a meeting tonight at 6 p.m. in the Southington Water Department, 605 W. Queen St., in Southington. The meeting is a regularly scheduled one and will include discussion of a Water Service Line Protection Plan.

With Thiery Leaving, What’s Next For Southington Schools? –


The departure of Howard Thiery, who will leave the school district on March 31 to become the Superintendent of Schools in Haddam-Killingsworth, means change is in the air at the Board of Education Administrative Offices on Beecher Street.
