Holiday Happenings, Trial Coverage and the North Center Project

What's what in Southington today, March 17, 2011.

So here’s the scoop for today, March 17, 2011. There are many things going on with the site today, new features and a reason to be “green” so let’s get the ball rolling.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day –

Southington Patch first and foremost wants to remind you that being green is a good thing, but especially so today as many in the area celebrate their Irish heritage. Even if you’re not Irish, it’s a great day to just go out and have some fun.

Take a look at this week’s “Patch Picks” if you are still undecided on how you want to spend your holiday.

Petit Murders Trial Coverage –

The Petit murders in 2007 shocked the nation and many in the area are continuing to follow the case as suspect Joshua Komisarjevsky faces the death penalty for his alleged involvement in what happened just one town south of Cheshire.

If you missed it and would like to see what’s happening with jury selection, please see today’s story “” and make sure to check in for the latest updates.

Real Estate Sales –

The Spring season is upon us and with it comes a boatload of house sales throughout the area. Looking to stay up on which houses are changing hands? Make sure you keep up to speed with our column “Sold!” which will post today at 12 p.m.

A Story…in Pictures –

Southington’s newest series, Viewfinder, will celebrate the holiday with a look back at Sunday’s St. Patrick’s Day Dinner at St. Dominic Church. Be Sure to check out the spread, add your own photos if you were there and reach out to tell us what you’d like to see next week.

What’s Next for North Center School –

The decision to restrict certain departments from moving to the North Center School has left town officials scrambling and if the project is scrapped, the end result could be costs to the taxpayer.

Log on and tell us today, was the decision by planning commissioners the right one? Or should they agree to modify their restrictions to optimize space use and allow the project to move forward? We want to know what you think.
