What's what in Southington today, March 11, 2011 and during the upcoming weekend.

So here’s the scoop for today, March 11, 2011, and the following weekend. With many dinners, breakfasts and entertainment opportunities, we will give you a rundown this week of the best places to eat.

Waffle Breakfast at the Grange –

Families are invited to a community waffle breakfast Saturday morning at the Grange, 200 Knowles Ave. in Plantsville. The event is open to everyone and tickets can be purchased from any Grange member or at the door for $5.

The breakfast runs from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Grange property.

3 on 3 Basketball Tournament –


Looking for a good activity this weekend for your athletic child? The YMCA is hosting a basketball tournament open to anyone in grades 3 – 10 on Sunday, with the tournament scheduled to tip off at 9 a.m.

The program is designed to promote teamwork and provide a positive recreational option for local children, said YMCA staff. The tournament will be held at the YMCA, 29 High St., and there are a variety of divisions to make competition fairer for all with trophies going to the top teams.

The tournament costs $28 to pre-register and $38 the morning of the event. To register in advance, call the YMCA at 860-628-5597.

“Connecticut Trio” Concert–


If it’s a cultural event you are seeking, the New Britain Museum of American Art may have just what you are looking for.

On Sunday afternoon, the museum will host a special concert featuring the musical talents of the Connecticut Trio. The concert will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. at the museum, 56 Lexington St. in New Britain. The event is free with the price of admission: $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $8 for students, free for children under 12.

St. Patrick’s Day Dinner –

The season of the Irish is upon us and St. Dominic’s Church will kick-off celebrations on Sunday evening with a traditional – or for those less interested a hot dog dinner – which will take place at the church, 1050 Flanders Road in Southington.

The meal, which will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. is designed to bring community families together to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and is open to the public. Tickets are $10 per adult and $5 for children ages 3 – 12. Children under 3 are free.
