"Monster" Crime, Sunny Days and SHS Fotball

A look at five things worth knowing about today in Southington.

1. Welcome the Sun This Weekend –


After what seemed like a never-ending streak of rain, we have finally seen the sun again the last couple days. Guess what? We have some good news – the sun will continue to hang around through the long weekend.

The National Weather Service
is calling for mostly sunny weather Friday with temperatures in the mid-80s, some patchy fog in the morning Saturday that will again give way to mostly sunny skies and sunny skies again on Sunday. Temperatures Saturday and Sunday are expected to be in the high 70s to low 80s.

2. A “Monster” Crime –

An attempted snatch and run larceny backfired on two Naugutuck residents this week as the two were arrested after police said one tried to take six 6-packs on Monster energy drinks from the Price Chopper on Queen Street Tuesday afternoon while the other waited in a getaway car.

They never escaped the parking lot.

Bruno Reis, 33, and Reed Stachelek, 31, were each taken into custody on one charge of conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary. Reis, who had entered the store was also booked on charges of third-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny. 

3. Southington Town Hall to Close Monday –

Southington Town Hall will be closed Monday in observance of the Memorial Day holiday, so if you have business to handle, be sure to plan ahead.

4. Half-Priced Books –

Looking for a good book? Well check out the .

Friends of the Library have been hosting the sale throughout the month of May and there are still many good books left for purchase. They will be available during store hours Monday, Saturday and Tuesday in the basement level of the library.

5. Story of the Day: Drury Sets Lofty Goals for SHS Football –

The youth movement continues at Southington High School as Mike Drury will officially take over as the high school’s football program as head coach this August.
