Music, Mayhem and the Truth About New England Weather

What's what in Southington today, Feb. 18, 2011, and during the upcoming weekend.

So here’s the scoop for today, Feb. 18, 2011, and the upcoming weekend.

Weather: Fire and Ice –

Residents in central Connecticut will get a taste of the classic New England weather this weekend, with temperatures up near 60 degrees followed by cooler weather and snow on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The warm weather will begin to cool Saturday when skies remain clear, but temperatures drop into the high 30s on what is forecast to be a breezy day.

Temperatures will continue to drop into the 20s on Sunday with snow expected overnight. Accumulation is not expected to be heavy, however.

Town Hall, Library to Close Monday –

Both Southington Town Hall and Southington Public Library will be closed on Monday, Feb. 21, in observance of President’s Day. Schools are already off as students will be on vacation.

Town hall and the library will each reopen during regular business hours on Tuesday, Feb. 22.

Music, Mayhem and Fun

Local residents are invited to join the Southington Community Services team at the Aqua Turf tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 19, as the department hosts “Music and Mayhem,” a fundraiser designed to provide a night out while also raising money for the food pantry.

The event will take place at the Aqua Turf Club, 556 Mulberry St. in Plantsville from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $55 per person and include dinner and live entertainment.

A Break from Pizza –

Let’s face it, you can’t eat pizza all the time and still be healthy, so let’s take a little break.

Southington Patch will take a week off from the usual Friday column “Best Pizza in Town” this week, but will return again on Feb. 25 when we feature the next of Southington’s more than 30 separate pizza restaurants.

In the meantime make sure you check out the selection from our first six weeks and if you have any suggestions on which pizza joints we should be featuring, let us know today by emailing Local Editor Jason Vallee at jason.vallee@patch.com.
