Robotic Success, Red Sox or Yankees and the North Center School Project

What's what in Southington today, April 5, 2011.

A look at what’s happening in Southington and on Patch today.

North Center School Project Fate Could Be Determined Tonight –

When members of the Planning and Zoning Commission meet tonight, they will have the tough task of reviewing added data and determining whether to approve a special permit application that would allow the town to move forward with the sale, lease and potential buy back of the North Center School.

The commission voted two weeks ago to approve the exception only if certain departments including the land use departments were restricted from moving to the school, which would be renovated by Borghesi Building and Engineering of Torrington for use as Board of Education and government offices.

Last week, town officials put together recommendations based on surveys and expert opinions to include in the discussion, which will reopen as a public hearing tonight.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Southington Town Hall, 75 Main St., and is open to the public.

Help make Easter Great for Local Children –

The Social Justice Ministry of the Church of Saint Dominic is again collecting Pre assembled Filled Easter Baskets, which will be donated through the Department of Children and Families in New Britain.

This program is part of the Social Justice Ministry’s continuing mission to reach out beyond our parish community and live our faith in service to others. Your donation helps a local social worker meet the needs of abused, neglected and severely impoverished children in our community.

Ideas: baskets can contain activities, books, gift certificates, snacks, etc! Sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, waffle balls...let your imagination run away. We always appreciate the baskets coming ready to give as a gift.

Contact Kathy Ciullo at (860) 628-9172 with any questions or to have your basket picked up.
