Southington Man Pronounced Dead Following Morning Accident

Farmington police said the 83-year-old was struck by a car on Route 6 in Farmington this morning.

An 83-year-old Southington man has died after suffering serious injuries in a morning accident on Route 6 in Farmingon, police said.

Aurthur Walker, of 18 Pine Grove Road according to Southington GIS information, suffered fatal injuries when he stepped in front of a car on Route 6 in the area of Hyde Road, according to the Farmington Police Department.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that Walker had stopped his car along the shoulder of Route 6 just east of Hyde Road, got out and walked into the westbound lane where he was hit by a 1989 Ford Mustang at about 5:45 a.m.

Walker was treated by emergency personnel and he was taken to John Dempsey Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the second car was identified as Diego Sanchez, 57, of Hartford. He was taken by ambulance to Hartford Hospital for treatment.

The North Central Accident Reconstruction Team remains on scene for further investigation. They will interview the driver and a witness to the accident and examine both vehicles, Lt. Marshall Porter said.

The accident forced police to close Route 6 until 8:50 a.m.
