[VIDEO] "9/11 Is A Day No One Will Ever Forget"

Area officials and residents discuss their experiences on Sept. 11, 2001, and the months that followed. How do you remembered that fateful day and the months that followed?

Sept. 11, 2001, is a day that brings a flood of memories for area residents. Most people remember where they were, what they were doing and the thoughts that came to mind during one of the most stunning terrorist attacks in American history.

Ten years later, those memories remain as vivid as ever.

"It's a historic event that save from young children who weren't old enough to remember, I don't think anyone will forget," said Richard Barlow, first selectman in Canton.

Cities and towns across the state are remembering the tenth anniversary of 9/11 in a variety of ways. Here a look at some of the local ceremonies and memorial events happening in your area:

Avon
What:
Sept. 11 10th Anniversary Service
Where:
fire station, 25 Darling Dr., Avon.
When:
Sunday, Sept. 11, at 8:30 a.m.
Additional Notes:
The public is invited to attend.

Canton
What: Sept. 11 Remembrance Service
Where:
at the corner of Simonds Avenue and East Hill Road
When: Sunday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m.
Additional Notes:
Candlelight service with Canton High School Chamber Singers, local firefighters, message from The Rev. Jim Wheeler and more. The public is invited to attend.

Farmington
Residents may mark the tenth anniversary at the Hartford Women's Triathlon at Winding Trails, at an outdoor dedication at Our Lady of Calvary Retreat Center. Another independent group is hoping to host a memorial service but has not yet gotten permission.

Simsbury
What:
Sept. 11 Tenth Anniversary Memorial Service
Where:
, 871 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury
When:
Sunday, Sept. 11, at 8:30 a.m.
Additional Notes:
The public is invited to attend this event in honor of firefighters, police officers, emergency medical service personnel, members of the military services and the nearly 3,000 dead. The Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will provide refreshments at the end of the service.

Southington
What:
Southington Remembers 9/11
Where: Southington High School
When:
Sunday, Sept. 11, at 6 p.m.
Additional Notes:
The event is open to the public. Shuttles will be available from nearby locations including DePaolo Middle School and municipal lots.

West Hartford
What:
Moment of Remembrance
Where: Veterans Memorial, located at the corner of Farmington Avenue and North Main Street in West Hartford Center.
When:
Sunday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m.
Additional Notes:
West Hartford will join the nation in a moment of remembrance on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. as churches will ring their bells for one minute on the 10th anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. A ceremony will follow at the Veterans Memorial, located at the corner of Farmington Avenue and North Main Street in West Hartford Center. The program includes the presentation of the American flag by the West Hartford Fire Department Honor Guard and prayers from The Rev. Robert Hooper of St. James’ Episcopal Church and Rabbi Michael Pincus of Congregation Beth Israel. Mayor Scott Slifka will conclude the program by laying a memorial wreath and offering words of remembrance. The event is free and open to everyone. For more information, call 860-561-7521.
