Website Documents Latest Mountain Lion Sightings

Though state officials have said last year's mountain lion sightings — — was a rare occurrence, a small group of residents are claiming that more lions are lurking around the Nutmeg State, according to CBS New York.

A website called "Mountain Lion: Cougars of the Valley" features written testimonials of mountain lion sightings from across the state as well as a map that shows where the sightings occurred. Visitors can also sign a petition requesting a state legislative hearing. So far, 228 signatures have been collected.

In response to these latest sightings, Dennis Schain, spokesman for the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, told CBS New York that there has yet to be any evidence showing that there's a population of mountain lions living in the state.

The lion that traveled from South Dakota to Connecticut last year in Milford in June.
