Winter Weather, Government Closings and Letter to the Editor

What's what in Southington today, Feb. 21, 2011.

So here’s the scoop for today, Feb. 21, 2011.

Winter Weather Returns –

Overnight snow is expected to drop 1 to 3 inches by dawn today and daytime winter weather will continue to bring an additional 2 to 4 inches of the white stuff, according to the National Weather Service. The day will also be windy with gusts up to 20 mph.

Skies will clear on Monday night, however, with Tuesday bringing sunshine.

Town Hall, Library Closed Today

Both Southington Town Hall and Southington Public Library will be closed in observance of President’s Day and Washington’s Birthday today, Feb. 21. Schools are already off as students will be on vacation throughout this week.

Both locations will each reopen Tuesday, Feb. 22.

President’s Day, ImagineNation Style –

Looking for something to keep your child entertained this President’s Day? Why not let them learn what it’s like to be a U.S. President?

The ImagineNation Museum, 1 Pleasant St. in Bristol, will host a special President’s Day celebration at the museum today. Children are invited to join and even dress and act like Abraham Lincoln or George Washington.

The museum will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to the public. The event cost $7 per person.

Board of Finance Workshops

The Board of Finance will host their budget workshops, beginning this week when members gather Tuesday to start discussions. The board will also hold a second workshop on March 2.

The meetings will be held at Southington Town Hall, 75 Main St., at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers and are open to the public.
