Why run for office?
I initially ran for office because I am a former journalist and have knowledge and understanding of municipal issues and policy. Additionally, I believe in giving back to your community in terms of time, talent and treasure.

If elected, what would be your primary areas of focus?
I will continue to focus on the little-to-no-spend initiatives I have been involved with including my work on the SEF, a private revenue stream for our school district; the recent timber harvest at Crescent Lake that yielded free lumber for our Southington High School and Vo-Ag classes; and our community ice skating rink (to name a few).  It’s these sorts of community partnerships and out-of-the-box thinking that we need to relieve some of the burden on our taxpayers.

What do you feel is the biggest issue facing Southington today?
The biggest issue facing Southington is our community’s growth.  With growth come challenges in terms of infrastructure, education, safety concerns, and more.  As a proponent of economic development, I issued key votes this session to continue fostering responsible growth and attractive development for our community.  But I also understand the economic and quality of life benefits that result from land conservation.  We must continue to properly fund our Open Space and Land Acquisition fund.

What skills do you have that you could bring to the community?
I bring to the table communication skills, which have benefitted me both in terms of my career and my community service work.  I believe in compromise and enjoy the challenges inherent with problem-solving – both of which require effective communication skills.

Anything else you would like to share?
I truly enjoy serving the town of Southington and its residents as an elected official and I look forward to continuing in that role as there are many ongoing projects that I would like to see to fruition.  I have always maintained that I have an empathetic heart, a prudent pocketbook and an independent mind, capable of making well-informed decisions that benefit our community.
